The fine art of woodworking is on display at Wild Hearts Gallery with the work of Placitas artist David Croxton. Exotic woods are turned into bowls, pens and hollowed vases of various sizes. He applies techniques such as carving, texturing, stone inlay and woodburning. Most intriguing, however, are Croxton’s Basketweave Illusion pieces. Basketweave Illusion is a technique where a piece of wood is turned, wood burned and embellished with color so that it resembles an actual woven basket.
Croxton’s journey into the art world began recently, as he has participated in multiple exhibits and art events in Placitas, NM, as well as the New Mexico State Fair, where for the last three years he was awarded multiple First Place Ribbons. He has been a member of the New Mexico Wood Turners since 2018, and a member of the American Association of Woodturners since 2023. His work has also been featured twice in the American Association of Woodturners (AAW) “Beyond the Bevel”, and received “Turning of the Week” recognition on the members gallery on the AAW online forum, which is viewed nationally and internationally. “It’s an honor to have the opportunity to show my work locally, and be associated with the established artists of Wild Hearts Gallery,” writes Croxton. |
