David Croxton is originally from Pittsburgh Pa. and was introduced to woodworking at an early age since his father was a carpenter and David was always eager to help and learn. Throughout his working life, he continued to develop woodworking skills by designing and building custom furniture pieces. In 2007, he purchased his first lathe and began an adventure in woodturning making pens, bottle stoppers and small bowls.
"In 2018 I saw a photo of a Basketweave Illusion piece for the first time. It was on the cover of a woodworking magazine, and I was instantly intrigued and amazed by it, but it wasn’t until November of 2022 that I made my first Basketweave Illusion piece. In brief, the Basketweave illusion is a technique where a piece of wood is turned, wood burned and embellished with color so that it resembles an actual woven basket. The technique requires meticulous precision, patience, persistence, and steady hands." David also enjoy woodturning hollow form vessels, lidded vases, and all types of bowl shapes. |
