NANCY AND JON COUCH
email: [email protected] www.waterprisms.com 505-867-2450 We began as woodworkers and were drawn to stained glass because of the interplay between color and light. We are self-taught and work primarily in stained glass using the copper foil method. We cut the glass, copper foil the pieces and then solder them together. We also use glass bevels, jewels, crystals and nuggets to enhance our work along with copper wire ornamentation. We are inspired by the intensity of the colors in the New Mexico landscape and our love for the fun and spontaneity of light. We have been making Water Prisms, Mandalas, Glass Windows, Pyramid Lamps, Sun Catchers and Jewelry Boxes for the past 40 years. We enjoy sharing with others the brilliant rainbows that come from our prisms as well as the intricate weaving of colors and textures from our mandalas and the soothing low-light atmosphere that radiate from our Pyramid Lamps. We had our Water Prisms at the first Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale in 1982 and this will be the 37th year we have been making them from our studio in Placitas. We create these empty prism sculptures to hold water that transforms them into true prisms, refracting the sunlight into rainbows or even moonbows from the full moon. As we developed as glass artists, we added jewelry boxes, mandalas, lamps of all types, mirrors, sun catchers, ornaments and other wonders of glass art to our repertoire. We have had a web presence since 1999 and have sold our art worldwide through our website. Besides gracing people's homes, the colorful rainbows from our Water Prisms have been filmed for special effects in both TV and on stage. Paramount Studios bought many of our Water Prisms to use the brilliant colors generated by them in their Star Trek Enterprise series and a theatre group in the UK used a large Water Prism attached to a staff as part of their production. We have been a part of the art community in Placitas for nearly 40 years and help organize the Placitas Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Sale with a few other artists and have been in all of the Placitas Studio Tours. We are happy to be a part of such a talented group of artists and friends here at Wild Hearts Gallery. |
