P.K. Williams is a mixed media artist who came to New Mexico after retiring from a teaching career in El Paso, Texas. It was then that she began her second career, one she had always dreamed of pursuing.
She is a member of the New Mexico Women in the Arts, the New Mexico Watercolor Society, the Collage Artists of America, The National Collage Society, the Rio Grande Arts Association, and the Corrales Society of Artists.
She has won awards locally, in Colorado and in Texas. She also had her work on the cover of the Alibi during Women’s Month.
P.K. says; I typically work in a series to fully explore a specific idea, question or theme. My work will always include many layers no matter what the subject matter because I like the depth that layering creates in a piece. This layering makes my work unique. Each piece is truly an original because it cannot be replicated.
The content in my work varies but I do tend to reference nature in many of my pieces; although my work is not intended to be highly representational. I enjoy the challenge of marrying several oddments into a cohesive and one-of-a-kind composition. This challenge keeps me excited about my work.
Another aspect of my work is experimentation. I experiment with both a variety of materials as well as a variety of processes. You will find acrylics, collage, metal, epoxy resin, and even house paint in my work! I also use various processes such as printmaking, creating cyanotypes, paper staining, collaging and other processes in my work. I typically work on panels because it holds more layers, but I do have works on canvas.
My intention in creating this work is not necessarily for the viewer to understand a piece and the deeper meaning behind its origin and creation but simply… to love it.
